Paris Fashion Week: a guide for guests who want street style photos

Official 2027 Paris Fashion Week dates, where shows are held, how street style photography works outside the venues, and what to wear to be photographed.

Paris has six official fashion weeks a year, all run by the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM). Most shows are for invited press, buyers and guests of the house. The street outside them is public, and that is where street style photographs are made.

The 2027 calendar

These are the dates published on the FHCM website as of October 2026.

Menswear Fall/Winter 2027-2028 runs from Tuesday 19 to Sunday 24 January 2027. Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2027 follows directly, from Monday 25 to Thursday 28 January. Womenswear Fall/Winter 2027-2028 runs from Monday 1 to Tuesday 9 March.

In summer, Menswear Spring/Summer 2028 runs from Tuesday 22 to Sunday 27 June 2027, and Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2027-2028 from Monday 5 to Thursday 8 July. Womenswear Spring/Summer 2028 closes the year, from Monday 27 September to Tuesday 5 October 2027.

The pattern is stable from year to year: men in January and June for six days, couture in January and July for four days, women around the start of March and from late September for nine days. The women's weeks are the longest. In the season that ended on 6 October 2026, the calendar listed between 8 and 13 shows, presentations and digital entries every day for nine days.

Where the shows are

There is no single venue. Each house chooses its own, and the FHCM does not publish addresses for most shows. Locations go to accredited press and buyers, often a day or two ahead.

Some houses return to the same address. Chanel showed at the Grand Palais on 5 October 2026. Louis Vuitton closed that week on 6 October in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre. Miu Miu showed at the Palais d'Iéna on 10 March 2026. In the same autumn season Courrèges used the Palais de Tokyo, Valentino the Sainte-Geneviève Library, Christian Louboutin the Théâtre du Châtelet and August Barron the concert hall La Cigale.

The Palais de Tokyo also hosts SPHERE, the federation's showroom for young designers, which ran there from 30 September to 6 October 2026.

Away from the venues, photographers work the streets where guests walk between shows. A fashion week guide lists Place Vendôme, the Tuileries garden and rue Saint-Honoré between rue Cambon and rue Royale, which it says is busiest from about 3 pm to 6 pm.

Show times are public even when addresses are not. On the autumn 2026 calendar Dior was at 2:30 pm on a Tuesday, Hermès at 3:00 pm on a Saturday, Louis Vuitton at 6:30 pm and Chanel at 8:00 pm.

How street style photography works

Outside a big show there is a crowd of photographers and fans. Some of the photographers are commissioned. The British photographer Jonathan Pryce covered the show seasons for Vogue for ten years, and he says clients such as magazines and brands book other work during the week. Others fit in personal shoots booked ahead between shows, as the street style photographer Emek describes.

The work happens before the show, when guests arrive, and again when they leave. Pryce says some of the best shows are in the morning and that he gets to the location early and has a coffee nearby to see who has turned up. One fashion week guide puts the busiest time at 30 to 45 minutes before a show at nearby venues and advises arriving 45 to 60 minutes ahead.

The photographer Tobi Sobowale describes crowds of photographers and fans outside the shows, thick enough that she works with a long 70 to 200 mm lens to reach guests. Emek says that people taking selfies with models make it hard to get a clear background, and that he stops shooting when the natural light goes.

Most of what you see published looks candid, and Emek says most of his frames are. Some are posed. At smaller or slower shows, Sobowale says, there is often a chance to direct a pose.

How to walk so that you are photographed

Arrive on foot from the end of the street, not from a car that stops at the door. The walk towards the entrance is the photograph.

Walk at a steady pace, a little slower than normal, with your normal stride. The frames that work are mid-action: crossing the street, adjusting a bag or a sleeve, turning to speak to someone. Look ahead or to the side. Staring into a lens reads as posing, and guides to street style agree that photographers avoid people who look too eager.

A body turned at a slight angle photographs better than one square to the camera. Keep your coat open or on your shoulders so the outfit is visible.

Light matters as much as the walk. Stay on the side of the street that is lit, with the sun on your face or to one side, and avoid standing with the sun directly behind you. In the third week of January the sun sets at about 5:25 pm and on 1 March at 6:32 pm, so the evening shows of the winter seasons happen in the dark. Sobowale describes evening shows as pitch black outside and says a photographer needs flash or a continuous light there. In late June sunset is at 9:56 pm and every show of the day is in daylight.

What to wear to get into the frame

Emek says he looks for colours first and then for structure, and for a good combination of colour and cut. The fashion week guides say the same in other words: contrast, one signature accessory, a mix of textures, and a play on proportion such as an oversized or sharply structured piece. For Paris they describe the local register as quiet luxury with an architectural shape.

In practice this means one idea per outfit: a red leather coat, a head-to-toe python print, a sculptural hat, or long gloves with bare shoulders.

Think about the background. Paris streets are pale stone. Strong colour, black with a hard outline, leather, fur and metallic fabric all separate from it. Beige disappears.

Dress for the month. The average afternoon high in Paris is 7.6°C in January and 12.8°C in March, so the winter seasons are coat seasons and the coat is the look. It is 23.4°C in June, 25.7°C in July and 21.5°C in September. Rain falls on 7 to 10 days in each of those months, and one guide notes that rainy days can produce strong street style: a good coat and an umbrella with a clean shape are an advantage when everyone else is running for cover.

Many street style frames are full length, so the shoes are in the picture. Wear the pair you want seen and can walk in on stone.

Etiquette

Do not block the door. Guests and staff need the entrance.

Do not walk into another photographer's frame, and if you are shooting too, take your picture and step aside. Sobowale singles out the photographers who do that as the ones to copy.

If you want a photo of someone, ask before you shoot and be kind about it. Sobowale's advice is that a compliment goes a long way. If the answer is no, leave it.

When a photographer shoots you and you want the picture, ask for their Instagram name and give yours. Have it ready. If they send you the image or post it, credit them when you share it.

Stay out of the road. It is open to traffic, and cars drop guests at the door.
