Eiffel Tower photoshoot at night

After dark the tower turns gold and everything behind it goes black. A person standing in front of it becomes the whole picture.

I photograph night sessions around the Eiffel Tower: Trocadéro, the bridges over the Seine and the streets where the tower appears between the buildings.

I bring a light, so your face is lit as well as the tower behind you. A phone has to choose one or the other.

The tower sparkles for five minutes at the start of every hour after sunset. Late in the evening the terraces are much emptier than at sunset, and that is when most of these photographs were made.

Wear something that holds its shape against a dark background: white, red, a long dress, a sharp suit.

Questions

When does the Eiffel Tower sparkle?

For five minutes at the start of every hour after dark. The last sparkle is at midnight, and at 1 am in summer.

Will my face be visible at night?

Yes. I bring a light, so you are lit as well as the tower behind you.

What should I wear at night?

Light colours read best against a dark sky: white, cream, red. Black works when there is light on you.
